A Brief History

The origins of Yankee Doodle date back to the 18th century. During the American Revolutionary War, British soldiers reportedly sang it to mock the colonial troops, believing they looked unrefined and unsophisticated. Lyrics

Yankee Doodle went to town,
Riding on a pony,
Stuck a feather in his cap,
And called it macaroni.

Yankee Doodle keep it up,
Yankee Doodle dandy,
Mind the music and the step,
And with the girls be handy.
