I bought my first banjo when I was 17, after saving two months of my wages as a railway apprentice. I had always loved music, but the guitar and drums never quite clicked with me. There was something about the joyful sound of the banjo that I couldn’t ignore.

Armed with nothing more than a DVD and a couple of books, I began teaching myself in my mum’s living room.

For more than a year, I tried to learn Scruggs-style banjo. I could follow the instructions, but I never felt as though I was truly making music. Eventually, frustrated by my lack of progress, I put the banjo down.

Then I discovered clawhammer and everything changed.

For the first time, I could feel the rhythm, hear the melody and enjoy real music coming from my banjo. That breakthrough began years of learning, experimenting and discovering what actually helps an ordinary person become a confident player.

Since then, I’ve turned those lessons into a complete learning system, including structured courses, practice exercises, song tutorials, books and tablature—all designed specifically for ordinary adults who want to play but don’t know what to learn next.

I created Banjo Adventures because learning the banjo shouldn’t feel like piecing together a puzzle by yourself.

You don’t need natural musical talent, hours of daily practice or a head full of theory. You need patient guidance, achievable steps and a clear path that builds one skill upon the next.
