A Word from the Creator of Banjo Adventures

A hot summer afternoon in 2006: I was 18, and my first real apprentice pay packet had just landed in my bank. I was a weekend millionaire, and with a pocket full of money, I faced a real teenager’s dilemma: a wild weekend with the lads… or finally buying the banjo of my dreams, the one that had been calling my name from the music shop window, bathed in god rays from the sky (okay, I made that part up, but you get the picture).
I think you know how the story went. I clearly remember sprinting there before they closed and walking out moments later, grinning from ear to ear, banjo in hand. I got my brand-new banjo home, and from the very first strum, I was completely and utterly hooked.
But let’s be real—learning was tough. With no good local teachers around, I had to forge my own path. I tried books, DVDs, scattered advice online… and instead of sweet music, I mostly found frustration. Progress was painfully slow, and at times, it felt lonely.
Nearly 20 years later, I can proudly say I did it. And that hard, messy journey is exactly why I created Banjo Adventures—not as some stiff “course,” but as a fun, welcoming way to start playing without the overwhelm.
I know the joy of finally strumming a song from memory and hearing it ring out, filling the room with something you created. I want you to feel that too. You don’t need to be perfect—you just need a clear path, a little patience, and the courage to enjoy the ride.
